The Tramvia Blau — the Blue Tram — runs up Avinguda Tibidabo from the Plaza Kennedy to the foot of the mountain track railway (the Funicular) that goes up to the funfair on Tibidabo (which you can see in the distance from just about any street in Barcelona).
To get there, take the FGC train (not the Metro) from Plaza Catalunya, and get off at the last stop on the Avinguda Tibidabo line.
It's a bit "touristy" (and, at €2.50 one-way, priced accordingly) but it was about the first place I went when I came to Barcelona nearly 30 years ago — when it wasn't so touristy. I imagined that from the top there would be a great view.
