Barça vs Man. Utd.

Today, Sant Jordi, is the day of the first leg of the Barça-Manchester United Champions League semi-final [kick-off 20.45, local time]. If you don't get much sleep tonight, you'll know the result of the game; if the entire city remains suspiciously quiet after around 10.30 tonight it was either a draw or else a lot worse.

Actually, even the most one-eyed culés, as the Barça fans are known, are none too optimistic about this one, as Barça have been fairly dire all season. Defeat might just have one compensation — manager Frank Rijkaard might get the sack and join Ronaldinho on a flight out, though it's perhaps too much to hope the president Joan Laporta might be joining them.

Happy Sant Jordi!

  1. 2-2, I'd say, as Barça will perform much better in this sort of game than they do in the normal way

  2. Barça 2, Manchester 1

  3. 1-0 pel Barça

  4. 1-3 para el Manchester

  5. Barca 0 — Man Utd 2

  6. 2-1 for Barça! Visca!

  7. ¿Quién juega?

  8. 1-2… però ¡força Barça!

  9. 1-1 but I hope Man United win

  10. Result Well, no one got that right — it finished 0-0 and it's still all to play for at Old Trafford next Tuesday (April 29).

It would have been a different story, perhaps, if Cristiano Ronaldo hadn't blasted a second-minute penalty high and wide but as it stands the culés will be going to Manchester with some optimism.

  11. But if that was "El mejor Barça" — to quote the headline in today's Sport — Man United have not a lot to fear if they play half decently on Tuesday (not like they did at the Nou Camp, that is.)
