Roses for Sant Jordi, eco-friendly ones! | Photo: Tom Walton
It's a very special week in Barcelona (and that's not because Barça are about to qualify for the Champions semi-finals!). Come with us on our social programme (especially Thursday) and see why.
- Tuesday 21st | Come for a stroll around the Raval, the district on the right of the Ramblas as you head down towards the port — home to the CCCB and the MACBA and Fernando Botero's fat cat, and to the protagonists of many of Barcelona's novelas negras (16.00).
- Wednesday 22nd | Our trip this afternoon takes us to the lovely gardens of the Palacio Real de Pedralbes, which was home to the Spanish monarchy 1919-1931 whenever they visited the city, and also takes in the remarkable Gaudí dragon on the gate of the Finca Güell, the summer home of Eusebi Güell, Gaudí's great patron (16.00).
- Thursday 23rd | It's Sant Jordi (St. George), the patron saint of Catalonia, and a very special day in the Barcelona year. We give books and roses to our loved ones (and we'll have a charity book stall here at IH Barcelona, on which we'll also be selling ecological roses for the same good cause). Come with us this afternoon and see what's happening around the (completely packed!) city centre.
- Friday 24th | We have a different theme each week for the fun at our Friday Club language exchange and — although we'll be a day late, of course — what else could it be this week but Sant Jordi? In the bar/on the terrace, 19.00-21.00.
Join us in Spanish Reception (C floor), unless otherwise stated, at the times given above.
Also this week | Champions, Barça vs PSG (Tuesday, kick-off 20.45); Spanish League, Espanyol vs Barça (Saturday, kick-off 16.00).
